Broadcast in South Korea from December 2, 2023, to January 21, 2024, the Korean series Welcome to Samdal-ri tells a touching and restorative tale of two childhood companions, Cho Sam-dal, portrayed by Shin Hye-sun, and Cho Yong-pil, acted by Ji Chang-wook. They grew up together in the picturesque village of Samdal-ri on Jeju Island. From a young age, Sam-dal aspired to move to Seoul to fulfill her dreams. Although Yong-pil initially followed her to the bustling city, their paths ultimately diverged.
During their separation, Sam-dal establishes herself as a fashion photographer in Seoul, while Yong-pil takes on the role of a weather forecaster in Jeju, out of love for his community. However, when Sam-dal faces a career setback due to a media controversy, she returns home with her sisters and unexpectedly reunites with Yong-pil after eight years apart. Welcome to Samdal-ri beautifully navigates their journey to revive their relationship while also showcasing the tight-knit community of Samdal-ri, where everyone feels like family. Set against the backdrop of Jeju Island, the series also provides ample fashion inspiration for stylish yet comfortable daily outfits. Read on for some casual ensemble ideas inspired by the characters from the show!

Cho Sam-dal
Outfit 1:
Using the name Jo Eun-hye in Seoul, Cho Sam-dal is a renowned fashion photographer who embodies her profession. In her final photoshoot before heading back to Jeju, she effortlessly combines a white button-down blouse over a classic white tee, achieving a chic yet professional look. Given her long hours in the studio, Sam-dal prioritizes comfort with relaxed trousers and plain canvas sneakers, creating a smart-casual outfit. To replicate her empowered look, focus on timeless and elegant pieces. For accessories, consider a star-shaped necklace, stud earrings, and a faux leather watch to complete the ensemble.

Cho Sam-dal
Outfit 2:
Even back on Jeju Island, Sam-dal’s clothing choices showcase a perfect blend of comfort and style. She embraces a relaxed aesthetic with loose-fit attire, often opting for her favorite long-sleeve button-down shirts paired with casual bottoms. Her go-to casual wardrobe includes oversized hoodies, denim jackets, baggy sweatpants, and denim shorts.
For a sporty twist on Sam-dal’s laid-back style, pair a long T-shirt under a long-sleeve zip-up sweatshirt with high-waisted leggings, highlighting an oversized, boxy silhouette. Complete this cozy ensemble with ankle socks and chunky platform sneakers for a relaxed vibe.

Cho Yong-pil
Reflecting his boy-next-door charm, Cho Yong-pil often sports plaid long-sleeve shirts and earth-toned sweaters paired with denim jeans. From his weather forecaster attire to casual wear, Yong-pil frequently dons various shades of blue, echoing his trustworthy and loyal disposition that has enchanted many, including myself!
In a memorable scene from the series, Yong-pil aids Sam-dal’s mother and other locals in harvesting seaweed. In a playful moment, Sam-dal begins tossing seaweed at Yong-pil, resulting in a spirited seaweed-throwing skirmish. To recreate Yong-pil’s outfit from that fun scene, I layered an autumnal flannel shirt over a simple tank top and paired it with acid blue denim shorts. Lace-up platform boots and a lightweight backpack provide a practical touch.

Cho Jin-dal
Cho Jin-dal, the elder sister of Sam-dal, is a former flight attendant who divorced a wealthy heir after clashing with his family. Although she appears fierce, she possesses a tender heart and tends to erect emotional barriers for self-protection. In contrast to her intense personality, her fashion sense leans towards soft, muted tones.
To recreate Jin-dal’s casual yet chic vibe, I layered a square-neck T-shirt beneath a pink cropped cardigan, teamed with a floral midi skirt to elongate the silhouette. A pair of black canvas shoes keeps the look effortlessly stylish. For finishing touches, opt for silver hoop earrings and a pink scrunchie to complement the cardigan.

Cho Hae-dal
The youngest of the trio, Cho Hae-dal became a single mother in her 20s. Despite her parents’ concerns, she is determined to raise her daughter, Ha-yul, who has a maturity beyond her years.
Hae-dal’s style exudes a soft and feminine charm, with a wardrobe filled with pastel-hued graphic tees, cardigans, long-sleeve shirts, shorts, maxi skirts, and dresses. To emulate her sweet and bubbly aesthetic, layer a floral crochet cardigan over a cute crop top and pair it with wide-leg shorts and platform sneakers.
Add some sweet touches with delicate silver drop earrings and a dolphin pendant necklace, a nod to Ha-yul’s fascination with dolphins after befriending Gong Ji-chan, the president of the local dolphin center. Hae-dal often carries a spacious bag when out and about, so finish the look with a black hobo bag to hold all your essentials.
