Daytime Barbie, Nighttime Wednesday: Creative Halloween Makeup Inspirations – THE Sugarblossomdiary

As we immerse ourselves in the spooky season, it’s the perfect moment to embrace the darker aesthetics! This Halloween, I’ve put together makeup looks that pay tribute to two iconic pop culture favorites – Barbie and Wednesday Addams.

Radiant by day and brooding by night, these two makeup inspirations will help you highlight the duality of your personality. To celebrate Barbie’s vibrant femininity, opt for glitzy makeup in shades of pink and champagne to craft a whimsical look that blends soft girl with high camp energy. For a Wednesday-inspired makeup style, keep it sleek and punk with classic goth essentials like black eyeliner, plum eye shadow, and deep burgundy lipstick.

Rosy Cheeks and Pink Lips

The products: A rosy flush and dazzling lips are crucial for achieving the Barbiecore look. The iconic Better Than Cheek blush from romand in #C02 Blueberry Chip is an excellent starting point. This finely milled powder aligns closely with the cheeks, providing a gentle blush rather than an overpowering pop of color. To offset those soft glam vibes, enhance your lips with colorgram’s glossy Fruity Glass Tint in #03 Soda Cool Peach, capturing the essence of Barbieland.

My take: romand’s beloved Better Than Cheek is delightful to use. Its lightweight formula glides smoothly onto the skin, delivering a naturally vibrant flush that invigorates the complexion. The minimal fallout is a definite advantage. However, despite choosing a dark pink shade, it required several layers to achieve a pronounced effect. While the Better Than Cheek in #C02 Blueberry Chip is ideal for soft glam looks, it might not meet expectations for a bold Barbiecore vibe.

On the other hand, I appreciate how effortlessly colorgram’s Fruity Glass Tint provides a luscious burst of color without stickiness. While I had initial doubts about the ultra-feminine pinkish-red hue, it blends beautifully to deliver an enchanting yet vibrant lip look. And let’s not forget the charming candy-colored packaging!

Shimmery Eyes

The products: No Barbie look is complete without a hint of shimmer, making the CLIO TWINKLE POP Pearl Gradation All Over Palette in #02 For Pink Season a must-have. With ten shades in matte, shimmery, and glittery finishes, this versatile palette can be used for blush, eye shadow, or contouring to create a pink-themed makeup. Add in too cool for school’s Glam Underliner in #02 Nude Beige, a double-ended pencil liner designed for the aegyo-sal effect, and you have all the makings of a soft glam look with a twist.

My take: While I value the versatility of this palette, I found the shades to be a bit too subtle for my more extravagant Halloween interpretation of Barbie makeup. I ended up blending in bolder pinks and reds from romand’s Better Than Palette The Secret Garden in #07 Berry Fuchsia Garden for added vibrancy. The soft, finely milled formulas of CLIO’s TWINKLE POP Pearl Gradation All Over Palette were easy to apply and adhered beautifully.

The simplicity of achieving aegyo-sal eyes with the Glam Underliner was a delightful surprise. This double-ended eyeliner pencil made the process remarkably easy, quickly becoming a staple in my daily makeup routine. In terms of sparkling Barbie-style flair, the eyeliner pencil performed admirably despite its understated shade, thanks to its impressive shimmer content.

Milky Nails

The product: No Barbie would be complete without an impeccable manicure, which is where romand’s Mood Pebble Nail Milk Grocery Edition in W03 Condensed Milk comes in. This sheer milky white polish can be layered for a bolder statement. A single coat is perfect for a pearlescent hint of color, while two or more coats provide a more striking effect that shifts from ethereal to pop art chic.

My take: I truly appreciate the surprisingly flattering Condensed Milk shade, but my not-so-perfect nail application skills made working with the watery formula a bit difficult. Achieving an even finish in cream, white, or off-white shades is notoriously tricky, and sheer formulas amplify that challenge. However, when applied correctly, the result is a stunning creamy white manicure with a luminous touch.

Spidery Lashes

The products: The Saemmuel Perfect Volume Mascara from The Saem is versatile enough to create both luscious and spidery lashes. It’s waterproof, sweat-proof, and smudge-proof, featuring a fluffy brush with dense bristles that builds volume without clumping. When teamed with SKINFOOD’s Soft Eyelash Curler, which is ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip, the results bring the drama!

My take: I sought out a versatile mascara for both spidery and fluttery lashes, and this bestseller from The Saem mostly delivered. It excelled at achieving a naturally beautiful look rather than going all out glam, which is fine by me. When I desire more drama or a doll-like allure, I might need to layer a different mascara for that effect.

Smoky Eyes

The products: CLIO’s Pro Eye Palette in #17 Over The Path is the ultimate eye shadow palette for special occasions, particularly if you’re a goth girl fond of sultry eye makeup! This palette is filled with ten warm yet moody shades in matte, shimmery, and glittery finishes, supplying everything you require for a goth glam effect. The included double-ended brush facilitates effortless application.

To enhance my eyes, I rely on MACQUEEN’s The Big Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner in #01 Smoky Roasting Latte, an intense black gel eyeliner that is waterproof, sweat-proof, and oil-proof. It’s ideal for tight-lining the lower lash line, or creating a feline flick that lasts throughout the night.

My take: I am absolutely enamored with these two products. Out of several gel liners I have tried, MACQUEEN’s offering is top-tier with its luxuriously smooth formula that is intensely pigmented, easy to apply, and genuinely long-lasting. As a long-time liquid liner enthusiast, I was thrilled to find that The Big Waterproof Pencil Gel Liner provides similar precision while also achieving the perfect smoky eye.

The Pro Eye Palette aligns perfectly with my aesthetic. I adored the combination of moody and glittery tones and was delighted to discover that plums and browns enhance my medium skin tone beautifully. I’m excited to utilize the palette even beyond the Halloween season.

Dark Wine Red Lips

The products: These two lip tints, available in moody shades and matte finishes, are perfect for F/W looks. MERZY’s Bite the Beat Mellow Tint in #M4 Bian Rose offers a wine red shade that appears less daunting when applied, while romand’s Blur Fudge Tint in #06 Mauvish adds a touch of drama with its moody undertones. Both products are enriched with hydration elements like shea butter and botanical oils to keep your lips moisturized.

My take: My next favorite to classic red lipstick are warm brown or dark plum lip tints, so these products were a perfect fit for me. I intended to blend both lip shades for a subtler look, and while I didn’t fully achieve the desired effect, my trial effectively highlighted the differences between the two formulas. I prefer MERZY’s tint as it holds up longer and is less prone to smudging. Though the soufflé-soft texture of the romand lip tint applied smoothly, there was a hint of cakiness. Both shades are pure goth perfection, making them essential additions to any Halloween or regular makeup collection.

The Looks

Barbie’s Look: This playful Barbie-inspired look evokes a touch of The Stepford Wives. I’ve exaggerated the eyes with layers of pink and champagne eye shadows while incorporating accents of cobalt blue from my eyeliner. For the blush, I went all out, complementing the soft flushed cheeks with luscious lips finished with sparkly Glasting Water Gloss in #00 Meteor Track. Face gems – sourced from my collection but easily replicable using YesStyle’s offerings – add a whimsical element, along with glitter tears reminiscent of pixie dust.

Wednesday’s Look: My interpretation of goth-inspired aesthetics takes a soft turn, avoiding face paint, fake blood, and stark black lipstick. I began with three layers of foundation to create a more porcelain complexion. The eyes feature matte eye shadows in plum, black, and brown, accented with black eyeliner for a moody vibe. To create a standout pout, I combined matte lip tints in berry and mauve shades for a vampy, wine red finish, topped with a plumping lip gloss. Dots of eyeliner across the cheeks provide a DIY freckle effect.
