Enhancing Skin Health with SKINFOOD’s Nourishing Formulas – THE Sugarblossomdiary

SKINFOOD is renowned for its food-inspired product lineup, which features gentle yet nourishing ingredients such as egg white, honey, and carrot extract. Whether it’s a serum rich in propolis or a setting powder infused with peach, this K-Beauty brand has continually excelled in both pampering and protecting skincare and makeup. This made SKINFOOD the first brand that came to mind as I searched for soothing and revitalizing skincare products.

My goal is straightforward: to restore strength to my irritation-prone skin while maintaining my anti-aging objectives. To achieve a thorough cleanse, I selected two pore-purifying products: the beloved Egg White Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil and the new Potato Madecassoside Soothing Pad. To soothe my unpredictable skin, I’m relying on the calming and hydrating Pantothenic Water Parsley Ampoule, which has barrier-repairing benefits. Additionally, I’m trying out the Black Cherry Retinol Daily Cream, a potent moisturizer aimed at combating signs of aging, though it may potentially irritate my sensitive skin.

Continue reading to find out how my skin reacted to these four SKINFOOD products.

The product: The newly launched Egg White Perfect Pore Egg Cleansing Oil is celebrated for its exceptional cleansing abilities coupled with a luxurious feel. Infused with protein-rich albumen (egg white) to cleanse away dirt, excess sebum, and impurities, it also includes skin-soothing ingredients like cica and licorice extract to minimize irritation. A blend of botanical oils cleanses the skin without stripping moisture.

Key ingredients: Albumen (egg white) extract, egg yolk, macadamia seed oil, sunflower seed oil, cica extract, licorice root extract, carrot root extract

The low-down: This widely-loved cleansing oil lives up to its reputation for being both effective and gentle. While it may not surpass my favorite K-Beauty cleansing oils regarding cleansing power, the Egg White Perfect Pore Egg Cleansing Oil impressed me with its ability to maintain hydration. As the first step in my double cleansing routine, this oil effectively protected my skin from the drying effects of harsher foam cleansers. Best of all, the oil-based formula felt non-greasy and left my skin feeling smooth and well-nourished. It also scores bonus points for not irritating my eyes like some oil cleansers do!

The product: Featuring potato extract sourced from Gangwon to help reduce hyperpigmentation and strengthen the skin barrier, along with madecassoside to alleviate irritation, these toner pads clarify troubled skin while preventing flare-ups. Humectants like beta-glucan and glycerin ensure optimal moisture levels. Made from non-bleached cotton in a double-sided design, they’re ideal for everything from moisture enhancement to intensive toner mask sessions.

Key ingredients: Niacinamide, potato pulp extract, glycerin, beta-glucan, sodium hyaluronate, madecassoside, sunflower seed oil, rosemary leaf oil, cica extract, caffeine

The low-down: While toner pads aren’t typically my go-to, using SKINFOOD’s has shown me their effectiveness in providing convenient moisture and nourishment boosts. After my evening cleanse, the Potato Madecassoside Soothing Pad effectively eliminated the dry, tight feeling in my skin and restored some suppleness, though I am still looking for improvements in skin tone and texture. It’s also a fantastic way to soothe the skin at the first signs of irritation. After two weeks of use, I’m convinced that toner pads are a valuable addition to any skincare routine.

The product: Enriched with skin-soothing, hydrating, and barrier-repairing ingredients like panthenol, water celery extract, and cica, the antioxidant-rich Pantothenic Water Parsley Ampoule from SKINFOOD significantly enhances skin hydration and health while fortifying skin against environmental stressors. Plus, it comes with a refreshing herbal scent.

Key Ingredients: Japanese parsley extract, panthenol (3,000ppm), cica extract, tea tree leaf oil, pantothenic acid, ceramide, coriander fruit oil, bergamot fruit oil

The low-down: This ampoule’s lightweight yet indulgent formula is truly delightful to apply. Applying it to my skin every morning set a positive tone for my day! It excelled at locking in moisture as well. Upon application, my skin instantly looked soft and plumped, and with regular use, I noticed a calming effect that left my skin smoother to touch. The ampoule also helped reduce most facial irritation, leaving just a hint of redness and a few sensitive spots. My sole concern was that the relatively lightweight formula may not provide a complete reset for my skin. For more significant results, I might need to include stronger products.

The product: Combining black cherry extract with 0.05% hydroxypinacolone retinoate (granactive retinoid)—a gentler and more stable member of the retinoid family—this anti-aging moisturizer is excellent at fading imperfections and enhancing skin resilience. The nutrient-rich formula also includes glutathione and niacinamide to balance skin tone, azulene to combat irritation, and adenosine to help reduce sagging. Dermatologically tested, it is suitable for sensitive skin.

Key ingredients: Wild cherry fruit extract (2,500ppm), hydroxypinacolone retinoate (granactive retinoid), niacinamide, adenosine, marigold extract, bakuchiol, glutathione, retinol (0.01 ppm), sodium guaiazulene

The low-down: Due to my skin’s recent challenges, I was hesitant to incorporate a retinol product into my nighttime routine, regardless of its gentleness. However, I quickly realized I had no reason for concern. While this product may not suit all skin types or conditions, I found the Black Cherry Retinol Daily Cream instrumental in guiding my skin toward a healthier appearance. Thanks to the mild nature of hydroxypinacolone retinoate and the soothing properties of the formulation, I experienced minimal irritation despite some persistent redness. My sensitive skin appeared brighter and more settled by the end of the trial phase. Although the improvements might seem modest compared to the significant effects I experienced with MIZON’s 0.3% Retinol Youth Cream (check out my review here), the Black Cherry Retinol Daily Cream is undoubtedly effective in terms of restorative qualities.

The Verdict:

While these four SKINFOOD products didn’t quite reach holy grail status, they provided solid, sustainable benefits. For anyone looking for a quick radiance boost or significant anti-aging results, these four lightweight formulas might not deliver the dramatic impact desired. However, if your aim is to find a balance between soothing care and gentle renewal, this quartet is perfect.

Final Thoughts:

Best for quick moisture boosts: Potato Madecassoside Soothing Pad
Best for gentle cleansing: Egg White Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil
Best for day-to-day hydration: Pantothenic Water Parsley Ampoule
Best for long-term anti-aging care: Black Cherry Retinol Daily Cream
