Kickstarting My Collagen Banking Journey for Firm and Youthful Skin – THE Sugarblossomdiary

As I navigate my mid-20s, I frequently find myself recalling a specific episode from the beloved 90s sitcom FRIENDS (S07E14: The One Where They All Turn Thirty). In this episode, Joey Tribbiani, portrayed by Matt LeBlanc, comically laments, “Why, God, why?…Let the others grow old, not me!”

We must accept that aging is a natural part of life that will eventually reach us all. While some embrace wrinkles and sagging skin as signs of a life well-lived, others may dread the emergence of fine lines, age spots, and crow’s feet as they grow older.

This year, I’ve committed to enhancing my physical and mental well-being, making healthier food choices, staying active, and prioritizing my skincare routine. I aspire to age gracefully and am eager to explore the latest trend in preventative skincare: collagen banking.

To embark on my collagen banking experience, I tried several products: By Wishtrend’s Pore Smoothing Bakuchiol Sun Stick, Cos De BAHA’s L2 Bakuchiol 2% Retinol Serum, MIZON’s Hyalugen Le Lift Cream, and GREEN MONSTER’s Inner Beauty Inner Collagen.

If you’re curious about how my skin responded to these four K-Beauty products, keep reading for my insights.

What is Collagen Banking?

Collagen banking is a skincare trend that has garnered much attention from dermatologists, beauty influencers, and skincare aficionados alike. It encourages individuals to preserve the collagen in their bodies, anticipating the decline that typically begins in one’s 20s. For more details on collagen banking, check out my previous post.

What it is: This sun stick boasts SPF 50+ PA++++ and is infused with bakuchiol, protecting against harmful UV rays while smoothing the skin. Enhanced with niacinamide, peptides, and caffeine, it helps even skin tone, minimize enlarged pores, and lift sagging skin. The lightweight, sweat-resistant formula suits all skin types for daily use.

My take: Avoiding excessive sun exposure is crucial to preventing premature skin aging, making sunscreen non-negotiable. I’m quite selective about my sunscreen—it must provide hydration, be non-greasy, free of white cast, and sting-free. Thankfully, the Pore Smoothing Bakuchiol Sun Stick meets all these criteria. It offers excellent broad-spectrum protection with SPF 50+ PA++++, and its silky texture glides smoothly on my skin without leaving a sticky residue. Moreover, it effectively controlled sebum production and matted my skin, providing a perfect base for makeup.

What it is: This anti-aging serum combines bakuchiol, retinol, and niacinamide to boost collagen production, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, and reduce dark spots. It also contains allantoin, aloe barbadensis leaf extract, and tocopheryl acetate to support skin elasticity and soothe irritation while delivering antioxidant benefits. The formulation is free from six potentially irritant ingredients, making it suitable for all skin types, including dry skin.

My take: I have been using bakuchiol and retinol in my skincare routine for some time, so I was not concerned about potential side effects like purging or sensitivity when trying Cos De BAHA’s retinol serum. I applied the L2 Bakuchiol 2% Retinol Serum three times a week during my evening skincare routine over two weeks. After using a hydrating toner and essence, I used a pea-sized amount of the serum, followed by a rich moisturizing cream to combat any dryness. The lightweight, fragrance-free serum quickly calmed my acne flare-ups and refined my skin texture.

What it is: This powerful lifting cream combines low-molecular collagen and hyaluronic acid to enhance skin firmness and hydration. With niacinamide, squalane, and adenosine, the formula promotes skin brightness, suppleness, and wrinkle reduction. It is dermatologically tested and suitable for sensitive skin.

My take: I am thoroughly impressed with MIZON’s collagen-rich cream, from its luxurious packaging to its skin-nourishing properties. The cream’s pudding-like consistency gives my skin a radiant glow without being overly greasy. Initially, I hesitated to try it due to concerns about a heavy feel, but it turned out to be perfect for both day and night use. The moisturizing and radiance-enhancing effects have been particularly satisfying.

What it is: This peach-flavored collagen supplement contains 1,000mg of collagen peptide, Vitamin C, and lactic acid bacteria, promoting skin elasticity and gut health for overall wellness. With fish collagen having a low molecular size, it’s easily digestible and absorbable. Each sachet contains 110mg of Vitamin C, meeting your daily needs. The pack includes 30 sachets, and for optimal results, one should be consumed daily.

My take: After a three-week trial of this collagen supplement, I observed quicker skin recovery (especially for troubled areas) and improved digestion. My acne flare-ups healed faster and I experienced reduced bloating when paired with consistent exercise and a balanced diet. One downside is that the collagen doesn’t dissolve easily in cold or room temperature water, making preparation a bit tedious due to the need for extensive stirring. While the flavor isn’t fishy, the peach taste is quite subtle, which might not appeal to sweet tooths.

Final Verdict

There’s wisdom in the saying that “prevention is better than cure,” and this is the very core of the collagen banking trend. Overall, the K-Beauty products I’ve experimented with mark a positive beginning for my collagen banking efforts.

Since my skin doesn’t display prominent signs of aging yet, it’s too early to assess the lifting and firming benefits of this regimen, as it typically takes one to three months of consistent use to witness anti-aging results. Nevertheless, I am pleased with the hydrating, brightening, smoothing, and calming effects all four products have delivered, which are essential for maintaining healthy skin.

Leading the charge is MIZON’s Hyalugen Le Lift Cream, which provides outstanding hydration, leaving my skin plump and luminous. It works wonderfully in conjunction with other active ingredients like retinol.

Cos De BAHA’s L2 Bakuchiol 2% Retinol Serum comes in as a strong second, as it successfully brightened my complexion and improved skin texture. For those new to retinol, I suggest starting with twice a week and gradually increasing usage as your skin adjusts to prevent any irritation.

GREEN MONSTER’s Inner Beauty Inner Collagen is a delightful, refreshing drink that gives me an immediate boost to support my daily endeavors. I also noticed my nails growing faster and stronger with this supplement! Lastly, By Wishtrend’s Pore Smoothing Bakuchiol Sun Stick allows me to confidently face the day with reliable sun protection without any greasy residue.
