Having eczema myself, I empathize with the difficulties of finding effective treatments and consistently moisturizing to alleviate eczema symptoms.
Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is a prevalent skin condition that manifests as redness, flakiness, itching, and other related symptoms. This term actually encompasses various skin issues, including atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and dyshidrotic eczema. Consequently, every eczema case is distinct, meaning my approach to managing eczema may differ from yours. It’s crucial to consult a dermatologist for professional treatment and advice regarding eczema.
With my skin being dry, sensitive, and prone to eczema, I’m always searching for the ideal cream to incorporate into my skincare regimen. Recently, I’ve aimed to broaden my choices by exploring some popular K-Beauty moisturizers that can help restore my compromised skin barrier!
Here’s a selection of ingredients I prioritize when selecting a cream to hydrate my dry, cracked skin:
Essential Ingredients for Eczema-Prone Skin
- Humectants: Ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide draw moisture to the surface of the skin, ensuring it remains hydrated.
- Emollients: Components such as ceramides, squalane, and dimethicone provide smoothness and softness to the skin by filling in the gaps between skin cells. They also strengthen the skin barrier, preventing moisture from escaping.
- Occlusives: Ingredients like petrolatum, shea butter, and mineral oil create a protective layer over the skin, sealing in moisture. Many occlusives also serve as emollients, enhancing skin softness. Products rich in occlusives typically have a thicker consistency.
- Soothing agents: In addition to causing dryness, eczema can lead to flare-ups and heightened sensitivity. Skin-soothing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal, panthenol (Vitamin B5), and centella asiatica extract help alleviate irritation and reduce redness associated with inflamed skin.
Ingredients to Steer Clear Of
- Alcohol: The FDA designates products as “alcohol-free” when they lack ethanol; thus, it’s important to check the ingredient list for “ethyl alcohol” or “ethanol.” These can dry out the skin, leading to itchiness and exacerbating eczema flare-ups. Don’t confuse these with stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol, which are beneficial emollients found in many eczema creams!
- Fragrance: This ingredient often raises concerns for individuals with sensitive skin. “Fragrance” is non-specific, potentially encompassing numerous substances that could cause allergic reactions or contact dermatitis. To be safe, opt for fragrance-free products that contain easily recognizable ingredients!
The three creams I selected are both alcohol-free and fragrance-free, and they contain a mix of beneficial humectants, emollients, and soothing ingredients. Let’s dive into these three moisture-repairing creams from popular Korean skincare brands!

Ingredient Breakdown
The Beta Panthenol Repair Cream is enriched with SOME BY MI’s exclusive Beta-Panthenol™, which boasts beta-sitosterol aimed at enhancing the skin barrier along with 50,000ppm of soothing and hydrating panthenol. With glycerin and squalane, this formulation delivers excellent hydration. It also contains natural emollients, like safflower seed oil and sunflower oil, to retain moisture in the skin.
My Experience
The cream has a lightweight feel and absorbs quickly into my skin, making it barely noticeable after just a short while. Personally, I prefer richer creams that offer prolonged hydration for my extremely dry skin, but this product is ideal for those seeking a lightweight moisturizer with a non-greasy finish. Its light texture is perfect for wearing under makeup during the day. There was a subtle, pleasant fruity fragrance from melon and banana extracts upon application, which dissipated rapidly once the cream absorbed.

Ingredient Breakdown
Cos De BAHA‘s C1 Ceramide 1% Cream is formulated with emollient ceramide NP to soften the skin and support the skin barrier. This gentle formula is packed with naturally soothing ingredients such as centella asiatica extract, centella-derived madecassoside, aloe leaf extract, and green tea leaf extract. It also features humectant ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide, and sodium hyaluronate for abundant moisture. Tocopherol (Vitamin E) adds antioxidant and hydrating benefits.
My Experience
With the moisture-locking ingredient ceramide NP and a rich consistency, this cream effectively keeps my skin soft and combats dryness for extended periods. It is filled with soothing elements that helped to alleviate the persistent flakiness and irritation on tricky areas of my face, such as my forehead and upper lip. My only concern with this product is its smaller size (45ml), however, this compact quantity makes it convenient for on-the-go use and reapplication.

Ingredient Breakdown
Goodal’s Vegan Rice Milk Moisturizing Cream features glycerin and ceramide NP, both humectant and emollient elements naturally present in skin that provide comprehensive hydration. The cream is enriched with caprylic/capric triglyceride, a common emollient derived from coconut oil and glycerin, making it suitable for all skin types. With hydrogenated rice bran oil and Vegan Rice Milk™ (rice extract), this formula effectively retains moisture for softer skin. Plus, it’s alcohol-free and fragrance-free.
My Experience
This cream has a rich texture that absorbs quickly into my skin while providing a smooth matte finish. Although fragrance-free, I detected a gentle, pleasant rice scent. Its thick consistency really helped to soften the rough patches on my eczema-prone hands. It comes in a generous-sized tube (70ml) but is still compact enough to easily fit in my bag. I also appreciate Goodal’s commitment to sustainability—the cream is vegan and packaged in recycled materials.

Final Thoughts
Among all the products I tried, I find myself most likely to select Goodal’s Vegan Rice Milk Moisturizing Cream due to its larger volume (70ml) and substantial texture, as I tend to apply creams in thick layers to my body. I also experienced similar soothing effects with Cos De BAHA’s C1 Ceramide 1% Cream, but its smaller size was less appealing to me. Additionally, I would consider using SOME BY MI’s Beta Panthenol Repair Cream again as a lightweight daytime moisturizer. Overall, these three K-Beauty creams effectively hydrated my dry and eczema-prone skin, thanks to their beneficial ingredients and gentle formulations.
