A Comparative Review of 3 K-Beauty Makeup Removers – THE Sugarblossomdiary

Makeup removers play a vital role in any skincare routine as they efficiently eliminate makeup and impurities from the skin. Personally, I tend to favor large makeup wipes that can cover my entire face. However, with my usual product running out, I decided to investigate alternative makeup remover options.

Nowadays, makeup removers serve more purposes than just makeup removal. They come in various forms tailored to specific skin types and requirements. With my normal to oily skin, I’m in search of a makeup remover that thoroughly cleanses off my makeup while also nourishing my skin.

My daily makeup routine consists of a minimal selection of products, including a light-coverage foundation, under-eye concealer, setting powder for a flawless finish, blush for a natural glow, and eyeliner paired with waterproof mascara to define my eyes. I always apply sunscreen beforehand to ensure UV protection.

I chose three distinct types of makeup removers for testing – Torriden’s cleansing water, MIZON’s cleansing oil, and Pyunkang Yul’s cleansing pads – and incorporated them one by one into my nighttime skincare regimen.

Continue reading to discover how each of these cleansers performed in removing makeup and delivering a comprehensive cleanse.

What it is: This gentle, vegan-friendly cleansing water swiftly removes makeup without irritating the skin. It features a blend of eight micro-molecular hyaluronic acids that deeply penetrate the skin’s layers, leaving it supple and hydrated. The formula also includes witch hazel extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, and panthenol for a soothing effect on the skin. This product is made solely with naturally derived ingredients and is suitable for sensitive skin.

My thoughts: I dispensed a generous amount of cleansing water onto four pads, beginning with my eye makeup. I pressed the pad gently over my eye area for a few seconds before softly rubbing to remove the eyeliner and mascara.

While it took some effort to fully eliminate the mascara, I appreciated that this cleansing water didn’t irritate my skin. For the rest of my face, it left my skin feeling hydrated with no sticky or greasy residue. While cleansing water typically works well for makeup removal, highly resistant waterproof products might require a different cleanser for complete removal. Still, I believe this cleansing water makes an excellent choice for a double cleanse routine, effectively eliminating sunscreen and accumulated dirt from the day.

What it is: MIZON’s Deep Cleansing Oil comes in three variations: Nourishing, Firming, and Hydrating. The Nourishing cleansing oil incorporates antioxidant-rich ingredients like snail secretion filtrate, olive fruit oil, and grape seed oil to deeply hydrate and support skin regeneration. Additionally, turmeric root extract imparts soothing effects and promotes a healthy, radiant appearance. This oil-based formula emulsifies when in contact with water, ensuring a thorough cleanse that leaves the skin feeling refreshed.

My thoughts: During my testing of the product, I used the older version in a tube; however, they have recently launched a more convenient pump bottle version for a mess-free experience!

Previously, I hesitated to use cleansing oils thinking they wouldn’t suit my oily skin, but learning that the formula emulsifies with water encouraged me to try MIZON’s Deep Cleansing Oil. I applied a generous amount and massaged it onto my skin. To my delight, my makeup quickly dissolved and vanished. When I washed my face, the oil developed into a satisfying lather. After rinsing, my skin felt smooth, refreshed, and rejuvenated without losing any moisture.

What it is: These cleansing pads feature a pH-balanced formula infused with AHA ingredient citric acid and centella asiatica extract. They gently exfoliate the skin, enhance skin texture, and reduce hyperpigmentation, all while imparting a soothing finish. The embossed side of the cleansing pad exfoliates waterproof makeup, dead skin cells, dirt, and impurities, while the smooth side offers gentle cleansing and hydration.

My thoughts: To start, I lightly pressed the cleansing pad over my eyes, letting it sit for a few seconds before gently swiping away the eyeliner and mascara. The pad effectively removed my eye makeup without any hassle. I then used another pad for other areas of my face, leaving my skin feeling fresh and radiant.

The only downside to Pyunkang Yul’s Low pH Cleansing Pad is its size; I had to use multiple pads for full coverage of my face. However, I felt the textured side working efficiently. The pad was well-soaked in cleansing formula, which was a delightful surprise. These cleansing pads are perfect for days when I wear light makeup, but I can confidently use them for higher coverage looks as well.

Overview

After trying out the three types of makeup removers, I’ve found that each product works well according to different cleansing needs and preferences. Torriden’s DIVE-IN Low Molecular Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Water is excellent for removing light makeup, sunscreen, dirt, and excess sebum, although the hydrating liquid alone may not suffice for stubborn full-face makeup. MIZON’s emulsifying Deep Cleansing Oil excels at breaking down tough waterproof makeup. Finally, Pyunkang Yul’s Low pH Cleansing Pad offers the ease of pre-soaked pads for quick and efficient makeup removal!

Overall, my preferred options are the cleansing water and cleansing oil. The cleansing water is perfect for days when I don’t wear makeup but still want to wash off SPF, dirt, and excess sebum. The cleansing oil, on the other hand, seamlessly removes my makeup while keeping my skin hydrated without leaving a sticky feel.
