This year’s awards are derived from an impressive 823,343 reviews on 200,638 products submitted by 234,602 registered users between November 1, 2022, and October 31, 2023. To accurately represent the perspectives of Korean beauty consumers, Hwahae implemented a vetting process to exclude reviews from advertisers.

Annually, Hwahae highlights the leading beauty trends based on key search terms within the app. Given the current climate of stress, it’s no surprise that the term “calming” gained significant popularity, as users sought soothing solutions for weary skin. Additionally, “hydration” and “moisture” emerged as favored search terms for individuals looking to rejuvenate dry skin, while “pore” was frequently searched by those wanting to clarify and minimize their pores.

In 2023, “vegan” products saw a surge in popularity as more beauty enthusiasts sought items aligning with their lifestyle. For Hwahae, products in this category must be recognized as vegan by a credible organization and adhere to three principles: no animal-derived ingredients can be utilized; steps must be taken to prevent any cross-contamination between plant-based and animal-based substances before and after production; and the products must not undergo animal testing.
