As Christmas approaches, it’s time to pamper my skin with some serious care! The winter months, especially with their low humidity levels, have prompted my oily skin to evolve into a combination skin type. I’ve observed that my cheeks are becoming drier, while the rest of my face remains oily. In response to this change in my skin’s condition, I’ve begun searching for winter skincare products that are light yet nourishing, ensuring my skin is in top shape for Christmas Day.
The Basic Line by Pyunkang Yul immediately drew me in with its signature indigo blue packaging. What intrigued me even more was the line’s minimalistic approach to natural ingredients. These cruelty-free products are crafted from clean and safe components, making the formulas appropriate for all skin types.
I selected the Essence Toner, Moisture Serum, and Nutrition Cream from the Basic Line to help me achieve healthy and resilient skin this winter. Continue reading to discover the outcomes after two weeks of consistent use.

What it is: The Essence Toner includes hydroxyethyl cellulose, arginine, and astragalus root extract for deep hydration and to enhance elasticity by stimulating collagen production. It also soothes inflammation and strengthens the skin barrier to prevent moisture loss. With no artificial fragrances, colorants, alcohols, or parabens, this gentle and lightweight formula is appropriate for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin.
My take: I found the Essence Toner to be soothing and nourishing overall. During the trial, my skin texture improved, with my pores appearing less noticeable. What I truly value about the toner is its non-sticky texture, which left my skin feeling smooth, supple, and radiant. The nourishing attributes make it a must-have in my skincare routine throughout the colder months!
What it is: The Moisture Serum, featuring coptis japonica root extract, olive fruit oil, and arginine, helps maintain the skin’s oil-water balance while revitalizing it. This formula calms the skin and addresses flakiness caused by the accumulation of dead skin cells. Ideal for dry and combination skin types, the serum is also fragrance-free.

My take: After cleansing and toning, I applied a suitable amount of serum onto my hand and gently patted it into my skin. Initially, I was skeptical about whether the serum’s milky texture would be a good match for my combination skin, as I typically prefer water-based products that feel lighter. The Moisture Serum applied easily but left a slightly greasy feel. Despite this, I found the greasiness manageable and not overwhelmingly heavy. I genuinely enjoyed the dewy, healthy look it gave my skin.
Overall, the serum kept my skin hydrated and shielded it from the harsh winter air without causing congestion or heaviness!
What it is: The Nutrition Cream contains astragalus root extract (rich in amino acids and isoflavonoids) and butylene glycol to hydrate and soothe the skin while supporting firmness. With nourishing ingredients like shea butter and macadamia seed oil, it locks in moisture. This fragrance-free cream consists of EWG green-grade components, making it suitable for various skin types, including dry and sensitive skin.

My take: I usually gravitate towards gel-based moisturizers to finalize my skincare routine, even in colder weather, as I prefer lightweight hydration without greasiness. Therefore, I found the Nutrition Cream too rich for my face but perfect for my body. It provided essential nourishment to my neck and other areas prone to dryness in winter, like my elbows and knees.
Throughout the trial, I noticed that the wrinkles on my neck gradually softened, and my skin felt significantly smoother. This ultra-hydrating cream has surpassed my expectations, offering multiple skin benefits. Although I wouldn’t use the Nutrition Cream as my daily facial moisturizer, it serves as an excellent choice when my skin needs extra hydration on those cold, dry days. It should also work wonders for individuals with dry skin.
